The Rise of Mobile: What You Need to Know

Mobile apps and usage is continuing to affect media of all kinds, including social media. Some stats to note: Facebook now has almost 700 million active users on its mobile platform; mobile is on pace to top 25 percent of traffic in 2013; app downloads have crossed 40 billion in the Apple App Store alone, while time spent on apps skyrockets (past two hours per day). In this panel, experts from various parts of the mobile spectrum will share their insights about what’s working and what isn’t. Manolo Espinosa (@manolo) is the Head of Audio at SoundCloud, the world’s leading social sound platform that reaches 180M people per month with 10 hours of sounds uploaded every minute. In the capacity, Manolo is responsible for creating and implementing business strategy for all forms of existing and emerging audio content. In addition, Manolo oversees SoundCloud’s API toolset and integration with platforms such as Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter and Apple. Prior to SoundCloud, Manolo was co-founder of IndexTank, a real-time, hosted search engine acquired by LinkedIn.

Jane Kim (@jinner13) is the senior director of publishing at Flurry, Inc.  Flurry helps companies build, measure, advertise and monetize mobile applications in the new app economy. Flurry’s comprehensive measurement and advertising platform reaches over 850 million monthly unique smartphone and tablet devices across iOS, Android and other platforms.Prior to Flurry, Jane’s held roles as the VP of Strategy at Lot18, VP of Business Development at Hashable, and Sr. Director of Publisher Services at Jane received her AB from Harvard University and received her MS in Computer Science at New York University.

Adam Ostrow (@adamostrow) is a new media entrepreneur and commentator. As Mashable’s Chief Strategy Officer, Adam is responsible for defining and implementing strategy across the organization. Prior to being promoted to CSO, Adam was Mashable’s Executive Editor, a role in which he was responsible for the company’s editorial and business development strategy. In that position, Adam led the development of the Mashable Publisher Platform, created Mashable’s video program and expanded the scope of the company’s syndication relationships. Adam joined Mashable in 2007 as Editor in Chief, a role in which he directed day-to-day editorial coverage, authored more than 2,500 articles and grew the editorial staff from 3 to 25 employees. During his tenure as Editor in Chief, the site’s audience grew tenfold to more than 15 million unique visitors per month.
